Hubert Sumlin

(Nov. 16, 1931 – Dec. 4, 2011)

I must confess that my knowledge of Hubert Sumlin, the legendary blues guitarist from Chicago, was pretty much non-existent. In his lifetime, his music has inspired many people and bands that I greatly admire. Keith Richards, Carlos Santana, Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton, and the list just keeps on going.

The Great Unsubscribe!

a poem by Joe J Thomas

Classes! Deals! Special Offers!
Designed to fill the seller’s coffers
From these my in-box overflows
When will they stop? No one knows!
I will end these desperate pleas
The needy masses who push their cheese
Delete! Purge! Unsubscribe!
Please do forgive my diatribe

Advice on Advice

Introduction:

Advice: it’s everywhere on the internet. People have questions, and others are more than willing to give answers. But are the answers good? Are the questions even good? How can you know if advice is worth the network it’s written on?

There are two sides to the advice coin: The person who asks for advice, and those that answer the requests. Each side has factors that can make the advice valuable… useless… or in some cases worse than no advice at all.

Let’s cover some helpful hints for both sides of the advice coin!

Tiny Lego Lawnmower

Tiny Lego Lawnmower

OK. I admit it. I play with Lego building blocks. No, it’s more than that… I’m a “Lego-Maniac”. Seriously, I find them fascinating, fun, entertaining, and they have some kind of very child-like primal connection for me. So let’s crack this Lego nut open and see what’s inside, shall we? I’ve Left My Mind, But I’m All Right Now

April 10th, 2013.

My Page-A-Day calendar informs me of the following bit of trivia:

“Survey Says: 95% Of Us Put On Our Left Sock First.”

“Hmmmm…”, I thought, “I put on my left sock first.”
“And my left pant-leg!”, I continued.
“And my left shoe!”, I stammered.

Ok, so what’s all that mean? Well, obviously I’m with 95% of the rest of “Us” (whoever we are). But it also means that somehow my Right-Brain is taking precedence on all maneuvers involving socks, pants and shoes. And who knows what else!

I Can’t Turn This Light Off!

Solar Tube Skylight

The photo above is of a new Solar Tube Skylight we just had installed in our house. It is really amazing and brings a lot of natural light into the room. The only problem is that it looks so much like a light fixture that I keep looking for the “off” switch!

Granted, it’s not really “on” all the time, even though the source of light (the sun) is always shining. Natural things like clouds, trees, birds, and of course nightfall affect how much light really shines through. Man-made items like buildings and aircraft also block the light.

The Light Inside

This all got me thinking about another equally important light… the light that shines within each of us. Like the sun, it too is always on, but can be obscured. Natural things like our mood, life events, self-doubt, and even the weather can make our light seem dim at times. External factors such as unkind words from others, negative work places, accidents, and financial issues also have an impact on how bright our light shines. Continue reading
